CapEx Accountant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Capital Expenditure Accountant to join a renowned property group in London, offering a hybrid working model. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a supportive and inclusive finance team, where your attention to detail and ability to communicate financial information will be highly valued. You will play a pivotal part in ensuring the smooth operation of capital accounts, working closely with project management teams and supporting the wider finance function. The company is committed to providing an environment where your contributions are recognised, and your career can flourish.
Responsibilities:
- Set up Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) code projects on SAP following approval of capital expenditure budgets and completion of necessary documentation.
- Raise purchase orders for capital expenditure projects, ensuring all processes are followed accurately and efficiently for timely project delivery.
- Process capital expenditure invoices and ensure prompt payment to vendors, including managing vendor set-up with the SAP vendor team as required.
- Communicate regularly with maintenance and hotel development teams located nationwide to facilitate seamless project spend management and address any queries or issues promptly.
- Liaise with the SAP approval team regarding actual and budgeted capital spend approvals, handle budget reallocations when necessary, and manage year-end budget closure or roll-forward activities.
- Submit comprehensive reports related to capital expenditure, such as committed spend summaries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all submissions.
- Assist with month-end reporting tasks including preparation of Assets Under Construction (AUC) reports and reviewing AUC balances for timely expense recognition.
- Follow up on completed projects through to the capitalisation stage in the financial records, ensuring all relevant entries are made without delay.
- Ensure technology fees are correctly booked against capitalised projects and conduct quarterly reviews of future tech fees against pipeline projects to prevent over-capitalisation.
- Support internal and external audit processes by responding to queries, participating in periodic reviews, and maintaining compliance with group policies at all times.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience in fixed asset or capital expenditure accounting within a similar industry or finance environment is highly desirable for this position.
- Demonstrated capability to communicate complex financial information clearly to stakeholders from both financial and non-financial backgrounds is essential.
- A keen eye for detail combined with the ability to identify discrepancies quickly and propose practical solutions is crucial for success in this role.
- Proficiency with ERP systems is required; prior experience using SAP would be particularly advantageous but not mandatory if you have strong system skills elsewhere.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications—especially Excel—is expected so you can manage data effectively and produce insightful reports.
- A personable approach coupled with positivity enables you to work flexibly within teams while meeting deadlines collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills allow you to build relationships across departments and ensure clarity in all interactions.
- A disciplined approach towards producing high-quality work documentation ensures compliance with internal controls at every stage of the process.
- The ability to take ownership of assigned work streams while coordinating input from multiple stakeholders demonstrates your dependability within the team environment.
- Experience supporting audit processes—both internal and external—as well as handling ad hoc requests related to capital allowance projects or national statistics would be beneficial.
