Network Security Engineer
Join a unique, multi-national Information Management function that partners with governments and the Armed Forces to defend freedom and national sovereignty. As a Network Security Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding critical systems and network infrastructures as part of a 24x7 Internal Security Response team.
We’re hiring a Network Security Engineer to help protect mission‑critical systems used by the UK Armed Forces and international partners.
This is a hands‑on engineering role, combining design and build of secure network solutions with real‑time incident triage alongside a 24/7 SOC. You’ll work with modern security tooling (next‑gen firewalls, secure proxies, monitoring and packet‑capture tools) to detect, contain and prevent sophisticated threats.
What you’ll be doing
-
Own, engineer and improve network security controls (NGFW, proxies, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SSL inspection) across internal, external and DMZ zones.
-
Work with SOC analysts to review alerts, investigate suspicious traffic and drive incidents to closure as part of a 24x7 Internal Security Response team.
-
Troubleshoot complex network security issues using packet captures and logs to understand root cause and attacker behaviours (C2, exploitation, lateral movement, exfiltration).
-
Implement secure changes across firewalls, proxies and load balancers, balancing performance, availability and security for critical services.
-
Tune and standardise network security tools, including remediating findings from purple‑team exercises and other security testing.
Tech you’ll work with
You should enjoy working with:
-
Firewalls: Cisco, Check Point, Palo Alto – policy build, troubleshooting and advanced features
-
Proxies / traffic management: Bluecoat, F5 – content filtering, SSL inspection, application routing and monitoring.
-
Core networking: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, VLANs, load balancing, DMZ and security zone design.
-
Monitoring & analytics: PRTG / Nagios for availability, plus exposure or appetite to work with Darktrace Antigena, Splunk ES or LogRhythm.
-
Protocols & secure access: IPSec, SSL/TLS, VPNs, multi‑factor authentication, LDAP‑integrated services.
Security: You must be a British Citizen and able to obtain UK Developed Vetting (DV) / Top Secret clearance. BPSS and SC will be required as part of the process.
