Senior Software Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus in Python.

This role would suit either:

• A Python backend specialist with deep expertise and experience partnering closely with frontend engineers, ideally in TypeScript
or
• A full-stack engineer with strong Python backend capability and production-grade TypeScript experience

You will work closely with software engineers, data scientists, product stakeholders and domain experts to build and scale enterprise AI-powered applications. This includes both enhancing existing systems and contributing to greenfield builds.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain enterprise-grade AI-enabled applications and services
• Build and iterate across the stack including backend services, APIs, frontend components and databases
• Integrate machine learning models into production systems in collaboration with Data Science
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested Python code following best practice
• Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions
• Participate in and lead code reviews to maintain high engineering standards
• Improve development workflows, tooling and documentation
• Troubleshoot issues across APIs, databases and frontend components
• Work with DevOps to deploy containerised applications into AWS or Azure
• Engage with non-technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Contribute to security best practice and incident response discussions

Required Experience

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience
• Strong Python backend development experience in production environments
• Experience working with SQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• Experience deploying enterprise applications to AWS or Azure
• Understanding of secure SDLC practices and enterprise InfoSec standards
• Strong testing discipline in production environments
• Confident Git usage and collaborative workflows
• Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong judgement around code quality, including AI-generated code

Desirable

• Experience integrating AI tooling or machine learning models into production
• Production-grade TypeScript development experience, ideally React
• Experience with Docker and containerised deployment
• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Sentry
• Agile Scrum experience
