On behalf of an innovative biotech startup, I am currently seeking a talented Data Scientist to join a growing team that's tackling one of the most exciting intersections of biology and technology.

This startup has spent several years developing proprietary software capable of interpreting IR spectra. After building the foundational tech, they embarked on an ambitious mission to collect validated spectral data from a wide variety of organisms. The result? A robust, cloud-based database designed to identify bacteria and digital yeast—offering powerful applications across veterinary diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and food safety.

As the Data Scientist, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing and optimising this platform. You’ll work directly with spectral data, contribute to machine learning models, and help ensure the system continues to deliver high-value insights for real-world applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyse complex infrared spectroscopy datasets

• Build and refine machine learning models for organism identification

• Expand and maintain a large-scale, cloud-hosted spectral database

• Collaborate closely with biologists and software engineers

• Translate scientific data into practical, user-friendly outputs

Key experience needed:

• Strong background in data science (Python, R, etc.)

• Experience working with spectral or similar scientific data

• Familiarity with cloud-based data infrastructure

• A solid grasp of biology, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline (preferred)

• Prior experience in biotech, food tech, or environmental science is a plus

• A curious, collaborative mindset and comfort in a fast-moving startup environment

The role is offering a salary of up to £55,000 per annum and is on a remote basis with periodic meet ups in the UK.
