My Client are a series A BioTech set in the heart of London. They’re pioneering a growing area of drug discovery; protein engineering and design. Currently, they have developed a unique protein AI resource in the form of knowledge graph. This knowledge graph encompasses natural biodiversity and establishes connections between previously unseen proteins and their surrounding environmental, geological, and biological contexts, derived from the most diverse and extreme regions on the planet! They’ve got some ambitious plans which involve them being the frontrunner when it comes to Artificial Intelligence, protein/genomics based drug design. They hope to be able to pioneer medicine and change the current methods of drug discovery. They are now looking for a senior Computational protein engineer to bolster their protein design team and add capability to their core product.
This role in particular focuses on Computational Protein Engineering, and will be a role that covers complex IC work, product management and customer management. You'll work in close collaboration with the data team to generate protein sequences. You'll be using knowledge graphs and a vast amount of unique data to achieve this, so an understanding of these ideas is required. You'll also be interacting with experimental groups, discussing experimental designs and outcomes. This is a varied role but a unique opportunity in a rapidly growing start-up.
A Degree or PhD in relevant Life Sciences Area
At least 3, but ideally 5 years relevant industry experience
Strong experience with protein bioinformatics/engineering and molecular modelling software such as PyMOL, Rosetta, or Schrodinger (essential)
Excellent understanding of Protein Biochemistry (essential)
Experience with interacting & engaging with wet-lab scientists around the design or evaluation of in vitro assays or similar
Understanding of deep-learning methods for structural or functional characterisations of protein sequences
Experienced in cloud environments (AWS preferred)
Previous experience in product roles in the biotech sector (essential)
Scripting experience in Bash, Python
Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with interdisciplinary teams
Particular knowledge and experience with protein engineering for enzymes and/or gene-editing systems is preferred
Experience with graph databases / neo4j
The budget for this is between £60 - £100,000. A highly varied budget but for good reason, as their are many different backgrounds that could be suitable and they are open to having more junior applicants that hid all of the nails on the head. On top of this you'll receive a host of fantastic benefits, an employee share scheme and will be joining a company trying to define the next era of drug discovery and change the world in a positive way.
