Data Architect (Microsoft Fabric)

Data Architect (Microsoft Fabric) Location: Cheshire (Onsite 2-3 days per week) Role Type: Contract (Outside IR35) Duration: 6 Months (Initial) We are seeking an Data Architect (Microsoft Fabric) & Data Engineer contractors to modernise the data estate for a leading business based in Cheshire.

Data Architect (Microsoft Fabric) will lead the transition from a legacy SQL stack to a unified Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect the Microsoft Fabric environment (OneLake, Lakehouses, Warehouses) using a Medallion Architecture to ensure data quality and consistency.
• Design high-performance Star Schemas for sub-second BI response times and implement Data Vault 2.0 (highly desirable) for a flexible, audit-ready core layer that adapts to rapid e-com schema changes.
• Lead the development of enterprise Power BI Semantic Models (DAX)
• Execute the migration of legacy SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, and SSRS workloads into Fabric Data Factory and Spark-based notebooks.
• Integrate AI Tooling (Claude-code, GitHub Copilot, Fabric IQ) to automate code generation and build Data Agents for natural language business querying.
• Establish CI/CD pipelines using VS-Code, Git, and Azure DevOps to enable seamless daily production deployments.

Technical Requirements

• Fabric - Hands-on experience with Spark Notebooks, Data Factory pipelines, and Direct Lake mode.
• Dimensional Modelling (Star Schemas); Data Vault (highly desirable)
• Deep proficiency in SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, and SSRS (including migration to Paginated Reports).
• Advanced Python/PySpark/VS-Code, and Azure DevOps
• Experience/Exposure Tableau (highly desirable) as client as migrating users away from this BI tool.
