A prestigious global law firm is seeking a US and International Tax Manager to join their London office, offering you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s tax strategy across multiple jurisdictions. This position provides a unique blend of technical challenge and people management, where your expertise will be valued in both US and international tax matters. You will enjoy a highly collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing, professional growth, and supportive leadership. The firm is committed to fostering an inclusive culture, providing flexible working opportunities, and investing in training programmes to help you thrive. If you are looking for a role where your skills can make a real impact on business decisions and client outcomes, this is the perfect next step in your career.

  • Join a globally recognised law firm with a strong commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professional development, where your contributions will be highly valued and supported by knowledgeable colleagues.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements and ongoing training opportunities designed to support your personal growth and ensure you remain at the forefront of industry developments.
  • Take ownership of complex US and international tax matters, influencing key business decisions while nurturing junior talent within a diverse and high-performing team.

What you'll do:

As a US and International Tax Manager based in London, you will be entrusted with overseeing complex cross-border tax matters that directly influence the firm's financial health. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing intricate compliance processes for both US entities and international operations. You will work closely with senior stakeholders on strategic initiatives such as transfer pricing updates or new market entries while ensuring robust internal controls are maintained. Your role will also include mentoring junior team members—helping them develop their skills through structured training programmes—and collaborating with colleagues from various backgrounds to integrate tax considerations into broader business decisions. Success in this position requires not only technical proficiency but also an ability to foster teamwork across locations and time zones. You will be instrumental in driving operational improvements within the Tax & Partner Finance team while proactively communicating updates that keep everyone aligned with best practices.

  • Ensure the accurate and timely submission of all US entity tax returns, K-1s, and other related computations, maintaining rigorous standards for compliance.
  • Oversee financial hygiene regarding tax liabilities by ensuring appropriate payments are made, accurate provisions are maintained, double tax relief claims are maximised, and statutory account balances are monitored.
  • Manage state tax and PTET analysis for non-US entities and partners, including compliance processes and payment schedules.
  • Monitor and reconcile US tax reserves for partners in Australia as well as non-US reserves for partners in the US, adapting to profit fluctuations throughout the year.
  • Analyse and calculate quarterly US tax prepayments due on behalf of non-US partners, supporting them in managing their individual US tax affairs.
  • Supervise administrative US tax processes such as ITIN applications, information requests to partners, collating signatures for IRS forms, and documentation oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Reporting, Processes and Controls team to ensure accurate profit allocations to partners worldwide for reporting purposes across different year ends.
  • Lead the efficient completion of global tax compliance obligations including income and corporation tax computations and returns for all offices.
  • Support senior management with strategic projects such as updating transfer pricing documentation, new office openings, associations with local law firms, lateral hires, changes to remuneration systems, and more.
  • Establish systems to monitor legislative changes in tax requirements (e.g., transfer pricing, BEPS), implementing policies to ensure compliance with legal standards.

What you bring:

To excel as a US and International Tax Manager you will bring substantial hands-on experience navigating complex partnership structures within large organisations. Your background should include significant exposure to both US-specific taxation issues—such as K-1s processing or state-level compliance—and broader international matters like transfer pricing or permanent establishment risk management. You will have developed strong interpersonal skills that allow you to build authentic relationships across diverse teams while guiding junior colleagues through their professional journeys. Your approach should reflect empathy towards others’ perspectives while remaining focused on achieving shared objectives. A degree-level education (or equivalent) alongside recognised accounting or tax adviser qualifications will underpin your technical capabilities. In addition to these core strengths you should demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly across functions—ensuring that finance professionals without specialist tax knowledge feel supported when integrating compliance into decision-making processes. Your commitment to continuous improvement will help drive operational excellence throughout the department.

  • Proven post-qualification experience in international tax within a partnership setting is essential for success in this role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in US tax matters is required; experience handling K-1s, state taxes, PTET analysis, guaranteed payments calculations, and partner-specific issues is highly desirable.
  • At least five years’ experience operating at a senior advisory level within a large organisation; equivalent relevant experience may be considered if competencies align with outlined responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge across all aspects of international taxation—especially relating to UK and Australia—with exposure to other relevant territories preferred.
  • A strong appreciation of how taxation fits into wider business contexts from compliance, commercial risk management perspectives is vital.
  • Exceptional managerial skills demonstrated through leading specialist teams spread across multiple locations and time zones; proven track record of developing talent is advantageous.
  • Influencing skills with senior management regarding sensitive topics such as remuneration or change management are important for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Meticulous attention to detail combined with high levels of accuracy ensures quality outcomes across all deliverables.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities enable clear articulation of complex concepts to both technical specialists and non-tax colleagues alike.
  • Outstanding organisational skills paired with an ability to prioritise competing demands effectively under pressure.
