What you'll do:
As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will be at the heart of the organisation’s efforts to deliver exceptional Insurance Premium Tax support across its extensive network. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve providing clear technical guidance on IPT matters, maintaining critical tax content databases, supporting audits, reviewing compliance submissions, managing transformation projects, liaising with global tax authorities, nurturing relationships with market participants, promoting risk awareness, and championing knowledge-sharing initiatives. Success in this role will come from your ability to communicate complex tax concepts simply, collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels, proactively identify areas for improvement or risk mitigation, and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes that reinforce the organisation’s reputation as a trusted leader in its field.
- Provide technical guidance on Insurance Premium Tax matters to market participants, ensuring clarity through published materials and direct support.
- Maintain up-to-date tax information on internal databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for all stakeholders.
- Support audits and respond to enquiries from tax authorities by preparing thorough documentation and collaborating closely with senior managers.
- Assist colleagues within the Indirect Tax team on complex IPT issues by sharing expertise and offering consultative advice.
- Review and sign off UK and overseas IPT returns and payments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage special projects related to IPT transformation work, driving improvements in processes and systems across the organisation.
- Oversee existing IPT arrangements with global tax authorities while negotiating new agreements as needed to support business objectives.
- Build strong relationships with market participants as a key contact for all IPT-related queries, fostering trust and effective communication.
- Contribute actively to risk management culture by identifying areas of concern and promoting transparency in all premium tax activities.

Your interpersonal skills will be crucial for building rapport with colleagues across departments as well as external partners. You will bring strong analytical capabilities for interpreting legislation alongside excellent communication skills for translating technical details into accessible guidance. A consultative approach will help you navigate conflicting views sensitively while your proactive attitude ensures emerging risks are addressed promptly. Professional qualifications such as ACA or CTA are advantageous but not mandatory if you can demonstrate equivalent expertise through practical experience. Above all, your commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, continuous learning, and knowledge-sharing will set you apart.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills enabling you to explain complex tax-technical issues clearly to non-specialist audiences.
- Proven ability to organise your workload independently while seeking guidance only on particularly intricate matters.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within teams as well as liaising effectively with other departments and external contacts.
- Strong analytical skills allowing you to interpret legislative changes quickly and assess their impact on organisational operations.
- A proactive approach towards identifying challenges early on and recommending thoughtful solutions based on sound judgement.
- Confidence in constructively questioning information provided by others while using initiative when navigating ambiguous situations.
- Consultative mindset with the ability to manage differing perspectives diplomatically among stakeholders.
- Effective networking abilities that enable you to develop robust working relationships across diverse groups.
- Professional qualifications such as ACA or CTA (or equivalent) are preferred but not essential if you have proven capability at this level.
