You will be part of a knowledgeable and supportive team that values your expertise, encourages your professional growth, and offers flexible working opportunities to help you balance your career ambitions with personal commitments. If you are detail-oriented, process improvement focused, and eager to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative environment, this role will allow you to thrive while expanding your technical skills and industry knowledge.

- Work on challenging projects that involve improving systems, collaborating with IT specialists, and advising front office colleagues on the commercial impact of taxes in commodities trading across diverse markets.
What you'll do:
As a Commodities Indirect Tax Analyst based in London, you will be responsible for supporting comprehensive indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Your day-to-day activities will include preparing returns with third-party providers, reconciling general ledger accounts, improving existing reporting systems, collaborating with IT specialists on system enhancements, providing advisory support to front office teams engaged in commodities trading, and ensuring contracts are structured appropriately from a tax perspective. Success in this role requires you to be proactive in identifying process improvements, attentive to regulatory changes impacting international operations, and committed to fostering strong relationships both internally and externally. You will have the opportunity to participate in cross-functional initiatives that drive efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy and control.
- Support the end-to-end preparation of necessary returns such as VAT, GST, sales tax, EU sales lists, and other indirect tax filings prepared by third-party providers to ensure full compliance with reporting and collection obligations in all relevant jurisdictions.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations related to indirect taxes and resolve any discrepancies efficiently by liaising with internal stakeholders and external advisors as needed.
- Drive improvements in current systems used for indirect tax reporting with the aim of reducing time spent on return preparation, strengthening controls, and ensuring readiness for future regulatory developments including e-invoicing and real-time digital reporting.
- Collaborate closely with the Corporate IT Applications Team to design and implement systems that support group-wide reporting requirements connected to commodities trading, new financial instruments, or entry into new geographical markets.
- Engage with local advisors when appropriate to provide expert tax advice on miscellaneous matters affecting the business’s operations across various jurisdictions.
- Assist in delivering advisory services to front office colleagues who trade commodities and other assets so they fully understand the commercial impact and compliance requirements of all taxes throughout the supply chain.
- Ensure contracts adequately address indirect taxes such as customs duties, import VAT, VAT/GST, sales taxes, and withholding taxes in order to minimise risk exposure for the firm.
- Monitor changes in international tax regulations affecting commodities trading activities and proactively communicate implications to relevant teams.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing overall tax compliance processes within the organisation.
- Participate in regular reviews of internal controls related to indirect tax processes and recommend enhancements where necessary.
What you bring:

You will be comfortable managing competing priorities under tight deadlines thanks to your organisational skills. Above all else, your commitment to ongoing learning ensures that you remain up-to-date with evolving regulations impacting global markets.
- At least three years of relevant experience working within a Professional Services firm combined with hands-on exposure as part of an in-house tax team focused on indirect taxes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Workday or experience within commodities environments is preferred but not essential; willingness to learn new systems is highly valued.
- Possession of a recognised qualification such as ACA, CTA or equivalent which underpins your technical proficiency in indirect taxation matters.
- Exceptional attention to detail coupled with strong technical skills using MS Excel for data analysis, reconciliation tasks, and process documentation.
- A proven track record of driving process improvements within indirect tax functions by identifying inefficiencies and implementing effective solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines even during busy reporting periods.
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments including IT specialists, front office teams, and external advisors.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities allowing you to explain complex tax concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences.
