Our client is seeking a Venture Tax Manager, an individual who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and is excited by the prospect of working closely with innovative start-ups. This role offers the unique opportunity to support these businesses as they grow into international groups, optimising their tax affairs along the way. The successful candidate will be part of a team that supports ventures to achieve success quickly and sustainably, providing a range of services including finance, legal and tax.

What you'll do:
As a Venture Tax Manager, you will play a vital role within our client's portfolio. You will lead and shape the central tax function, improving tax processes across various businesses. Your role will involve acting as the first point of contact for financial directors on everything from minor queries to major business structuring decisions. You will also have the opportunity to design and implement incentive schemes across the portfolio. This role requires excellent communication skills as you will be explaining complex tax and finance matters to both finance and non-finance individuals.

  • Improve tax processes across portfolio companies spanning various business taxes
  • Act as the first point of contact for Financial Directors and CFOs on matters ranging from ad hoc queries to major business structuring decisions
  • Design and implement incentive schemes across the portfolio
  • Advise on Enterprise Investment Scheme structuring and submissions to HMRC
  • Correspond with HMRC, reviewing/submitting returns and agreeing valuations
  • Work with cap tables to model investments and option awards
  • Explain tax and finance matters to both finance and non-finance individuals
  • Review option agreements, articles and shareholders agreements

What you bring:
The ideal Venture Tax Manager will bring a wealth of experience in delivering results in fast-moving businesses. She should be comfortable with change and uncertainty. She should be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CTA) with 2-5 years post qualification experience. Her competencies should span a range of taxes, share schemes, and investment schemes. She should have excellent stakeholder management skills and be familiar with EIS reliefs and R&D tax credits. The ability to work autonomously, yet collaborate when necessary, is crucial.

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, and/or CTA) with 2-5 years post qualified experience
  • Good grasp of tax legislation and application
  • Experience dealing with early stage as well as mature businesses
  • Competencies across a range of taxes, share schemes and investment schemes
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with EIS reliefs and R&D tax credits
  • Ability to work autonomously but also collaborate where necessary
  • Meticulous attention to detail
