The role will report directly to the EMEA Head of Tax and will work in a team dealing with corporation tax matters for a portfolio of the Group’s banking and non-banking entities primarily in the UK. There are over 30 subsidiaries and branches in the UK.
This leading US financial services group are looking for a Tax Compliance and Reporting Manager to join our EMEA Tax team in a senior capacity. The role will report directly to the EMEA Head of Tax and will work in a team dealing with corporation tax matters for a portfolio of the Group’s banking and non-banking entities primarily in the UK. There are over 30 subsidiaries and branches in the UK.
The role involves engaging and working with a broad range of business stakeholders including: external authorities (regulatory, audit, tax), external outsourced providers, regional tax teams (including US and EU), EMEA Finance team, other corporate functions (Legal, HR, operations) and global shared services. The candidate should have a proven track record of corporation tax compliance and reporting ideally in a US parented multinational.
Main responsibilities include:
- Review, finalisation and submission of corporation tax returns for a portfolio of entities in the UK. Oversight and review of corporation tax computations prepared by outsourced tax compliance providers for certain overseas subsidiaries.
- Responsibility for the UK quarterly tax provisioning using OneSource Tax Provision including preparing/reviewing the tax provision calculations, management and reconciliation of the tax balances on the ledger, analysing the effective rate and reporting the position to the US tax department. This is required for both US GAAP and local GAAP reporting.
- Collating YTD and forecast P&L information and calculating estimated taxable income positions, effective tax rates for forecasting purposes.
- Review of tax disclosures for IFRS statutory accounts and responsibility for dealing with external auditors related to these.
- Ownership of key tax deliverables in terms of process management, controls and proactive development of processes as considered necessary. This could include but not limited to: CTSA payments process, corporate interest restriction return, annual thin capitalisation reviews, Controlled Foreign Companies annual reviews, Country by Country Reporting compliance obligations, R&D project management, Diverted Profits Tax annual review, Claims and Elections including relating to group relief, capital allowances, capital gains, banking surcharge, as well as UK Certificates of Residence.
- Ad-hoc tax technical research in relation to issues arising during the course of undertaking the above responsibilities, for example, tax treatment of new LTIP plans, capital allowance analysis, Substantial Shareholding Exemption analysis.
- Preparation of responses to HMRC queries regarding tax issues relating to portfolio of entities.
- Provide tax advisory support to the International Tax Director on any transactions / projects relating to a portfolio of entities to ensure accuracy of disclosures in the tax computations.
- Leading impact assessments in respect of UK legislative developments where necessary, for example, uncertain tax treatment.
- Management/participation as tax contact in complex multidisciplinary projects, for example, finance system conversions, building refurbishments, intercompany recharge reviews.
- Assist with corporate tax process improvement projects, including the use of automation tools to streamline and standardise processes.
- Liaising with the UK/other EMEA Finance Teams and the US Tax department as required
- Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with external advisers, key contacts in the lines of business and business partner groups within the Group across multiple jurisdictions.
Skills requirements
The Tax Compliance & Reporting Manager should have the following experience and personal attributes:
- Qualified ACA / CTA (or equivalent);
- Minimum 8 years post qualification experience in tax reporting and compliance ideally in the financial services sector (either in industry or public accounting firm);
- UK corporation tax experience together with experience and knowledge of tax reporting within the framework of US GAAP and IFRS;
- Strong experience using OneSource tax provision and compliance software ideally including set up and mapping;
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel and experience in using automation tools a plus (e.g. PowerBI, robotics);
- Highly analytical with strong communication skills;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to communicate credibly and clearly with tax authorities, and influence a variety of senior internal stakeholders;
- Demonstrate experience of working to multiple deadlines under time pressure;
- Self-motivated and ability to work unsupervised on day to day responsibilities;
