Category Lead - Chemicals

A global manufacturing group is seeking a high‑calibre Procurement Category Lead to take strategic ownership of its Chemical category. This offers the opportunity to influence global sourcing strategy, shape supplier partnerships, and drive significant value across a complex international supply chain. This is a pivotal role within a major, sustainability‑driven organisation supplying into multiple end markets. This is a global role and can be based near any of their UK & European sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the global category strategy for chemical raw materials.
• Lead sourcing initiatives, including supplier selection, negotiations, contracting, and performance management.
• Manage a high‑value global supplier base, driving continuous improvement in cost, service, and ESG commitments.
• Act as the subject‑matter expert on chemical materials, providing market intelligence and guidance to cross‑functional teams.
• Build strong internal partnerships across multiple business units and regions.
• Identify risk and develop strategies for supply chain resilience and sustainability.
• Drive innovation and collaboration with key suppliers.

Ideal Background & Experience

• Strong experience in procurement, category management, or strategic sourcing, preferably within chemical raw materials, inks, coatings, resins, or broader manufacturing environments.
• Skilled negotiator with experience managing complex, global supply bases.
• Evidence of delivering commercial value, improving supplier performance, and shaping long‑term category strategies.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Analytical, strategic, and commercially driven approach.
