Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Category Specialist to lead and manage categories of spend, specifically in Heavy Engineering Equipment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to take ownership of approximately £25m worth of spend across 20 contracts, while fostering strong relationships with senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing category management strategies, supplier development programmes, and contract management.

What you'll do:

As a Category Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing categories of spend, particularly in Heavy Engineering Equipment. You will conduct thorough market place analyses to define and implement effective category management strategies. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing supplier development programmes and managing supplier relationships. You will be entrusted with approximately £25m worth of spend across 20 contracts, requiring you to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, supply chain representatives, and third-party stakeholders. Your role will also involve preparing regular reports on your category of spend and documenting all associated risks.

  • Conduct market place analysis and define category management strategies
  • Implement supplier development programmes and manage supplier relationships
  • Oversee contract management activities while considering value engineering options
  • Manage relationships with senior stakeholders, supply chain, and third-party stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for your category of spend
  • Document all risks associated with the category of responsibility

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Category Specialist role brings a wealth of experience in procurement or Category Management. You should hold a relevant Technical or Business Degree or have equivalent experience. Working towards or having achieved a CIPS Professional Diploma (L6) would be beneficial. A proven track record in negotiations, stakeholder and supplier relationship management is essential for this role. Experience working with ERP Systems is required; knowledge of SAP would be advantageous. Lastly, you should have experience in the responsible Categories in part or full including; Static & Rotating Equipment.

  • Relevant Technical or Business Degree or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience in a procurement or Category Management role
  • Working towards or has achieved CIPS Professional Diploma (L6)
  • Proven track record in negotiations, stakeholder and supplier relationship management
  • Experience working with ERP Systems; SAP knowledge is advantageous
  • Experience in the responsible Categories in part or full including; Heavy Engineering Equipment
