Ever wanted to get in to the Defence sector within the manufacturing space? It's arguably one of the most secure sectors in the Industry and this role is working with one of the most established companies in their respective field. They have been designing, manufacturing and supplying the Defence sector with their highly specific product for over 100 years with a global presence including the US and Canada. They are a world leading business who through growth are looking for an experienced Buyer to join their Purchasing function.
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager and working alongside 4 fellow Buyers you will ideally come from a Machined Parts background however, this is advantageous and not expected.
The knowledge of supply of raw material to include awareness of engineering materials, machined components, forgings, castings and surface treatments is required. The ability to be able to interpret an engineering drawing and match the manufacturing requirement to approved supplier from our approved data base.
- Raise purchase orders and amend purchase schedules for the supply of production material and consumable items on the ERP System
Request quotations from suppliers for manufactured components, sub-assemblies and services
Negotiating with key suppliers on their pricing, lead time and terms of contract
Support the introduction of new products with new or existing suppliers
Ensure items are purchased in a timely manner to provide continuity of manufacture within standard times
Ability to identify and drive cost down activities
Ability to carry out supplier audits
Ability to write/negotiate specific project based supplier agreements
Liaise with suppliers to progress orders to meet internal customer needs
Review order acknowledgements for accuracy
Ensure procurement compliance to ISO9001 & AS9100
- CIPS qualified or working towards
- Ability to read technical/engineer drawings
- Proven background in a Manufacturing/Engineering environment
- UK Security clearance - Must be able to obtain
- Understanding of ITAR
