Trade Compliance Specialist

A global manufacturing business based on the Wirral are looking for a Trade Compliance Specialist to join their team. As Trade Compliance Specialist you will be responsible for ensuring trade compliance for customs clearance for all exports globally. You will be involved in developing and implementing customs compliance strategies, overseeing import and export processes, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of UK & EU customs laws.

About the role:

• Ensure that all import and export activities comply with relevant customs laws, regulations and international trade agreements, taking ownership of all necessary HMRC approvals relating to customs duties.
• To obtain and review all necessary documentation relating to customs clearance, including bills of lading, certificates of origin and other required documents. To conduct reviews of all import/export declarations made by external customs agents.
• To accurately classify goods according to the UK Trade Tariff and EU CN Codes to determine applicable duties and taxes. To supervise and reconcile the company’s import duty deferment account.
• To liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, government agencies and internal departments to ensure smooth customs clearance processes.

About the person:

• Previous experience working within trade compliance would be preferable but broader logistics experience within exports would be considered
• Experience working within a regulated industry would be preferable
• Confident verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with various internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority
• A desire to continue to develop within a customs compliance career route
