Planning Engineer

Save job

I'm working with a well established, Burnley based manufacturing business that’s looking to hire a Planning Engineer to support the continued growth of their operations. In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining efficient production plans that keep workflow running smoothly, ensure materials are available on time, and support consistent delivery performance.

My client is a well regarded manufacturer in the area, supplying high quality components and assemblies into a range of highly regulated industries.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in manufacturing or production environments, and confidence working with BOMs, routings, and engineering drawings.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain accurate production plans, workflows, and schedules to maximise efficiency and meet customer demand.
  • Interpret and manage BOMs, routings, drawings, and material requirements, ensuring planning data is always up to date.
  • Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Procurement to ensure smooth workflow and material availability.
  • Monitor progress against plans, adjust schedules where needed, and provide visibility of capacity, bottlenecks, and outstanding orders.
  • Produce clear shop floor documentation, reports, and planning updates that are easy to understand.
  • Analyse production performance, identify issues, and support continuous improvement in quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Assist in planning rework, repairs, and replacement schedules with minimal disruption.
  • Communicate effectively across teams, supporting project handlers and ensuring accurate customer order planning from receipt to dispatch.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and routings.
  • Confidence using ERP/MRP systems and planning tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work cross functionally and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related software.
  • Experience in a production, engineering, or manufacturing planning role (preferred).
  • Understanding of capacity planning, material flow, and resource management.
  • Technical or engineering background advantageous.

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary & benefits package
  • 39‑hour working week with an early Friday finish
  • Join a business investing heavily in new machinery, planning systems, and MES technology
  • Be part of a high performing, collaborative operations team
  • Long term career development and progression opportunities
