Robert Walters is partnering with a leading defence engineering organisation to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for a permanent opportunity based in Worcestershire. This is a unique chance to work on cutting-edge technology within a highly specialised sector, contributing to the design and development of advanced propulsion systems.


The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of design projects—from initial concept through to production drawings. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including production engineers, design authorities, and external stakeholders to deliver high-precision components and tooling for complex systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 3D models using Creo (v11)
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings in line with BS8888 standards
  • Design tooling and special-purpose equipment for manufacturing and testing
  • Manage design data using Windchill (v13)
  • Participate in design reviews and DFMEA sessions
  • Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and commissioning engineers
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable using DFMA principles

Candidate Profile

  • Degree or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with CAD software (preferably Creo)
  • Strong understanding of engineering materials, fasteners, and tolerancing
  • Familiarity with BS8888 and geometric dimensioning
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill)
  • Knowledge of defence standards (e.g., Def Stan 07-85)
  • Basic understanding of stress analysis
