Robert Walters is partnering with one of Europe’s leading liquid product logistics companies in their search for a new Head of Engineering for North-West Europe. They are engaged in the transportation and storage of a wide range of bulk liquid products, especially refined products, chemicals, and biofuels. Reporting into the UK Board the Head of Engineering will be responsible for both the capital-efficient and timely delivery of major new construction projects, the implementation of appropriate technical standards and process safety requirements and the maintenance of information technology strategies by researching, developing, and implementing technological strategic solutions to meet the needs of the business. Our client’s UK office is based in London with hybrid working, however, this position will require occasional travel across North-West Europe. They are offering an excellent package with six figure base salary + 25% bonus + car + pension contribution.

Responsibilities include:

Project Engineering and Execution:

• Ensure that major organic growth, facility enhancement and maintenance projects are completed on-schedule, on-budget and meet planned performance expectations.
• Directly oversee engineering activities and ensure strong employee and contractor safety performance.
• Maintain strong relationships with external suppliers, engineering firms and construction service providers to ensure that high-quality resources are available when required.
• Ensure that engineering and construction projects are seamlessly handed over to our operations group.
• Ensure that all engineering projects meet or exceed legislative and regulatory standards.

Business Development Support:

• Provide technical support to the evaluation of organic growth projects and new business opportunities.
• Provide engineering and technical due diligence support for corporate acquisition and major commercial expansion projects.

Technical Standards:

• Effectively manage the Engineering management system.
• Ensure that technical standards for all new engineering projects are well documented.
• Ensure that our maintenance management systems evolve in response to business needs and regulatory requirements.

Strategic Planning, Forecasts and Budgets:

• Provide input into regions annual strategic planning and budgeting processes with respect to engineering activities.
• Keep the regional leadership team well-informed of progress and risks related to major engineering projects.

Team Management:

• Actively manage all direct reports including the administration of an effective performance feedback system.
• Maintain a succession plan for key senior engineering and IT positions.

Required experience:

• Qualified CEng
• Engineering / IT or Science-based degree
• Significant experience in the planning, design, management and execution of major engineering projects involving large capital expenditures.
• The Head of Engineering must have detailed knowledge of international technical standards in Europe and possess proven communication skills among senior management.
• Tenacious approach to delivery, quality of output and organisation.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Able to demonstrate positive leadership.
• Can quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships with department managers.
• Demonstrable maturity, professionalism and gravitas.
• Strong business management, commercial and financial acumen.
