Large Loss Solicitor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Large Loss Solicitor with around 2 years of post-qualification experience to join a highly skilled national team. This role offers the chance to work on high-value claims involving injuries of utmost severity and complex technical insurance work. The successful candidate will manage their own workload, assist other lawyers, and contribute to corporate transactional work and company law advisory work. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a team that handles claims reserved at over £350,000, representing over £800 million of client reserves.

What you'll do:

As a Large Loss Solicitor in our team, you will play a pivotal role in managing high-value personal injury cases. You will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations, liaising with various stakeholders to gather evidence, instructing experts as needed, attending court hearings and meetings. Your role will also involve drafting key documents such as letters, reports, reserve sheets, and action plans. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior members of the team while ensuring compliance with all relevant protocols and procedures. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Assist partners and manage your own caseload of catastrophic and high-value personal injury cases.
  • Conduct initial investigations and prepare internal strategy reports as appropriate.
  • Review and analyse databases, making further investigations as necessary.
  • Liaise with other solicitors, insurers, police, Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and witnesses to gather evidence.
  • Instruct various experts as appropriate and control Case Manager Diary and action lists.
  • Attend court hearings, conferences, and Joint Settlement Meetings (JSMs) as directed by partner, subject to client approval.
  • Draft letters, reports, reserve sheets, and action plans as directed.
  • Assist with the management, supervision, and development of more junior members of the team.
  • Complete client and firm Management Information (MI) procedures.
  • Comply with Data Protection Compliance and Procedures, Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), rehabilitation protocol, relevant deadlines, quality measures, policies, procedures, and set financial targets.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Large Loss Solicitor role will bring around 2 years of PQE solicitor experience, with a focus on defendant personal injury litigation. Experience in high-value Large Loss work is essential. You will have a keen eye for detail, the ability to work under pressure, and meet strict deadlines. Your ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be key to your success in this role. A solid understanding of CPR procedures and technical ability is also required.

  • Around 2 years + PQE solicitor experience is essential.
  • Experience of managing a defendant personal injury litigation caseload (either Motor or Employer's Liability/Public Liability preferred).
  • Experience of high-value Large Loss work is necessary.
