Save job

Our client, dedicated to serving the public interest by setting high standards in corporate governance, reporting, and audit, is seeking an experienced Enforcement Lawyer with expertise in data management and policy. This organisation oversees independent enforcement arrangements for accountants and actuaries. Additionally, it sets national standards for accounting, auditing, and actuarial work while promoting high-quality corporate reporting.

The Enforcement Division conducts investigations into breaches of audit standards and undertakes professional disciplinary actions involving accountants, accountancy firms, and actuaries. These cases often involve collaboration with other regulatory bodies and agencies. The division handles large-scale, complex, and high-profile investigations that have significant public interest implications.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the development and implementation of data management policies and strategies within the Enforcement Division.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, DPA, FOIA).
  • Provide legal advice on data management issues to case teams handling complex regulatory investigations.
  • Lead workstreams to update policies and procedures related to data management.
  • Draft guidance on legislative changes affecting data management practices.
  • Collaborate with internal legal teams, IT experts, government departments, regulators, and external counsel on data-related matters.
  • Deliver training sessions to team members on best practices in data management.

This role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside forensic accountants, lawyers, and legal assistants. The position reports to senior leadership within the division.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with significant experience (typically 6+ years) advising on data protection laws and regulations. Key competencies include:

  • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Expertise in data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, DPA) and best practices.
  • Experience working with regulatory or enforcement bodies is highly desirable.
  • Proactive project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Candidates should demonstrate adaptability in a changing regulatory environment and possess strong teamwork ethics.

Working Arrangements

The organisation offers hybrid working arrangements with a minimum office attendance requirement of two days per week for full-time roles. The role is based in the London office.

Rewards & Benefits

The benefits package includes:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement with flexible options to buy additional leave.
  • Employer pension contributions of 10%.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program offering confidential support services.
  • Participation in a cycle-to-work scheme with savings on bike purchases.
  • A strong commitment to work-life balance.
