What you'll do:
As a Public Inquiries Senior Associate, you will play an integral role in supporting statutory and non-statutory inquiries from inception through to completion. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with inquiry teams, managing complex legal documentation, advising on sensitive public law issues, and ensuring that all processes adhere to best practice standards. You will be responsible for guiding witnesses through evidence preparation, overseeing large-scale disclosure exercises, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders at every level. Success in this role requires not only technical expertise but also the ability to foster trust within your team and provide mentorship where needed. - Act as a supporting solicitor on statutory and non-statutory inquiries, ensuring all legal aspects are managed with precision and care.
- Undertake internal investigations and independent reviews, providing clear guidance throughout sensitive processes.
- Deliver comprehensive legal advice to inquiry teams while contributing to senior relationship management with recognised legal representatives, core participants, witnesses, and document providers.
- Handle or lead complex, multi-disciplinary legal or investigative environments involving multiple strands of work.
- Oversee large-scale projects including delivery of disclosure, e-disclosure, document production, and information management exercises.
- Advise on public law challenges by assessing merits of defending judicial review claims and identifying grounds for issuing new challenges.
- Provide counsel on litigation related to national security matters, ensuring compliance with relevant protocols and confidentiality requirements.
- Plan, define, and implement strategies that support client needs while monitoring progress against defined objectives.
- Lead document-heavy review processes by project managing teams to identify key materials efficiently and accurately.
- Supervise delegated work within the team by adopting a supportive approach that encourages development among junior colleagues.
What you bring:
To excel as a Public Inquiries Senior Associate, you will bring proven experience from previous roles involving litigation or public law matters—ideally gained within reputable firms or organisations known for their rigorous approach. - Qualified Solicitor registered with SRA or Law Society with at least 2-3 years’ experience in litigation roles involving complex casework.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale disclosure exercises or similar projects within commercial litigation or public law settings.
- Exceptional drafting skills combined with sound legal judgement when navigating sensitive or high-stakes matters.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to detail under time pressure.
- A collaborative mindset that values teamwork and supports the development of junior colleagues through mentoring or supervision.
- Experience working effectively across diverse teams of fee earners within fast-paced environments requiring adaptability.
- Strong communication skills enabling you to provide clear instructions to witnesses and liaise confidently with external stakeholders.
