Locum Solicitor - University

My client is a well-regarded university in the West Midlands and they are looking to add a Locum Solicitor - University into the team. They are known for its focus on academic excellence, innovation, and student success. The Legal Services team plays a key role in supporting the university’s operations, governance, and commercial activities, offering a collaborative and supportive environment.

Job Title: Locum Solicitor - University
Location: West Midlands (3 Days WFH)
Hourly Rate: £50 - £70 per hour via an umbrella company
Contract Type: Locum - 3 months (ongoing)

What the role involves:

• Handling a varied caseload of legal matters, including commercial contracts, governance, compliance, and intellectual property.

• Advising departments across the university on practical, risk-based legal issues.

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation.

• Providing guidance on data protection, employment, and other operational matters.

• Supporting senior management and committees with governance, risk, and compliance questions.

• Working closely with colleagues to provide pragmatic and commercially sensible solutions.

• Maintaining high standards of client service in line with SRA and university expectations.

Who we’re looking for:

• Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a minimum of 2 yeasr post-qualification experience.

• Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.

• Good commercial awareness and the ability to provide practical solutions to complex issues.

• Experience advising on commercial, governance, or higher education matters is desirable, but not essential.
