Legal Counsel
We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join a leading organisation as a Legal Counsel based in the West Midlands. This role is based at our clients Head Office in West Midlands, with flexibility for hybrid working. As Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in providing essential legal advice and compliance support across the business, ensuring legal safeguards are in place while partnering with various departments to drive organisational success.

Be a qualified solicitor status in England & Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction); candidates qualified by experience will also be considered.

Have previous in-house legal experience; ideally within the retail, FMCG sector is highly desirable.
- Strong expertise in drafting complex commercial agreements and advising on governance/compliance matters.
- Experience managing investigations conducted by regulatory bodies such as the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), Data Protection Commission (DPC), Trading Standards or Environmental Health Officers is beneficial but not essential.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
- Commercial awareness with a pragmatic approach to providing legal advice that aligns with business objectives.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts including Sale of Goods/Services Agreements, SaaS Agreements, IT Service Agreements, Consultancy Agreements, Logistics Agreements, Data Processing Agreements, Intellectual Property Licences, and Confidentiality Agreements.
- Advising on consumer rights issues, trading regulations, promotions compliance, pricing policies, advertising standards, and other regulatory matters affecting the retail sector.

Providing timely, practical, high-quality, and commercially focused legal advice for key business units.
- Managing commercial disputes from inception through resolution (including court proceedings), liaising with external counsel when necessary.
- Monitoring changes in legislation and retail regulations while ensuring internal policies remain compliant and up-to-date.
- Managing intellectual property portfolios and brand protection efforts while advising on IP disputes alongside key stakeholders in Trading, Design, and Marketing teams.
