Our client, a market-leading construction and property services company, is seeking to add an In House Construction Solicitor with expertise in both non-contentious and contentious matters to their legal team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive legal support to the construction division, handling a broad range of construction-related legal issues from contract drafting to dispute resolution.

What you'll do:

As an In-House Construction Solicitor for our client's company, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal support to their construction division. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include drafting, reviewing, negotiating contracts as well as providing legal advice on all aspects of construction law. You will also manage contentious construction matters while collaborating with project teams to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Your ability to liaise effectively with external stakeholders will be key in resolving legal issues and disputes.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, including JCT and NEC contracts, subcontracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties, and other related documentation.
  • Provide legal advice on all aspects of construction law, including procurement, project delivery, and risk management.
  • Manage and advise on contentious construction matters, including disputes, claims, and litigation, working closely with external counsel when necessary.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and mitigate potential legal risks.
  • Support the commercial team in tender processes, advising on contract terms and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies, to resolve legal issues and disputes.
  • Stay updated on changes in construction law and regulations, ensuring the business remains compliant and informed of best practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures within the Group.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this In-House Construction Solicitor position brings a wealth of experience in both contentious and non-contentious aspects of construction law. With at least 2 years of PQE, you have a strong understanding of construction contracts and related documentation. Your proven track record in managing construction disputes and litigation will be crucial to your success in this role. You possess excellent negotiation and drafting skills, coupled with strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to build strong working relationships across the business.

  • Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 2 years’ PQE, with significant experience in construction law (both contentious and non-contentious).
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts (JCT, NEC) and related documentation.
  • Proven track record of managing construction disputes and litigation.
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across the business.
