Legal Counsel (London based Investment Manager)
An exciting role has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join a global investment manager, for a unique role supporting the evolving digital assets sector. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive environment that values professional growth, knowledge sharing, and teamwork, as you will be working alongside knowledgeable colleagues across multiple jurisdictions.
What you'll do:
- Assist the Digital Lead on complex project work by leading calls and managing workstreams with a high degree of supported autonomy.
- Develop proficient knowledge of legal developments affecting digital assets and associated traditional finance structures such as mutual funds, exchange traded products, and distribution arrangements across international markets.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of evolving global legal frameworks, engaging deeply with new regulations and regulatory regimes impacting digital assets.
- Support policy initiatives by participating in engagement with regulators, trade bodies, and standard setters at an international level.
- Handle a mix of business-as-usual tasks - including NDAs, distribution agreements, and investment management agreements - as well as novel product structuring assignments.
- Take responsibility for tracking products or initiatives and preparing associated internal reports to ensure effective communication within the team.
- Share knowledge proactively within the international legal team by driving best practices, supporting open communication flows, and fostering strong relationships within the function.
- Build effective relationships with key business partners across technology, sales, finance, compliance, data privacy, and corporate communications teams to support cross-functional objectives.
What you bring:
- 3-6 years post-qualification experience (PQE). Private Practice experience is preferred but not a necessity should this individual have relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex legal projects independently within a financial services or asset management context.
- A high level of attention to detail combined with critical thinking skills that enable you to navigate intricate regulatory landscapes effectively.
- Proven ability to collaborate as part of a team while building positive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Solid background in traditional finance products such as mutual funds or exchange traded products; familiarity with distribution arrangements is advantageous.
- Willingness to engage deeply with changing regulations globally through research and analysis.
- Comfortable operating in an environment that requires adaptability as priorities shift according to business needs.
- Interest or experience in AI-related legal matters or regulatory developments such as the EU AI Act would be beneficial.
