In-house employment lawyer
A leading FTSE 250 financial institution is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join their established legal division. What you’ll do:
- Provide expert legal advice on employment law issues such as grievances, disciplinary actions, performance management, absence management, discrimination cases, and whistleblowing incidents.
- Advise on organisational restructures, redundancies, policy development, and ensure alignment with current employment legislation.
- Monitor and interpret employment-related regulatory changes including SMCR, FCA/PRA requirements, keeping the business informed of relevant updates.
- Manage Employment Tribunal claims and other employment-related disputes with professionalism and care for all parties involved.
- Liaise with external counsel when necessary and oversee litigation strategy to achieve fair outcomes for both employees and the organisation.
- Partner with People & Organisation teams on investigations, settlement agreements, employee relations matters, fostering a supportive workplace culture.
- Draft and review employment contracts, consultancy agreements, and policies to ensure clarity and compliance with legal standards.
- Deliver training sessions and coaching to People & Organisation teams as well as business stakeholders on developments in employment law.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance frameworks while supporting broader dispute resolution efforts across the organisation.
- Contribute proactively to internal investigations by providing clear guidance rooted in integrity and fairness.
What will make you successful?
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE) gained from a well-respected law practice or in-house legal team specialising in employment law matters.
- Proven track record of handling both contentious and non-contentious employment issues within regulated entities or financial services environments.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as SMCR (Senior Managers & Certification Regime), FCA (Financial Conduct Authority), and PRA (Prudential Regulation Authority) is highly desirable for this position.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships internally across departments as well as externally with legal partners or regulators.
- Commercially minded approach that takes into account wider business considerations while offering practical solutions.
- Patience in explaining technical terminology clearly so that stakeholders can easily understand complex legal concepts.
- Capacity to provide concise commercial advice tailored to specific organisational needs without unnecessary jargon.
- Openness to receiving constructive feedback from colleagues or clients in order to continuously improve skills and behaviours.
- Curious mindset combined with adaptability for thriving in high-paced environments where priorities may shift quickly.
- Commitment to acting with integrity at all times while embracing the philosophy of treating customers and colleagues fairly.
