Senior Legal Counsel, Leeds
One of the UK's most high profile and recognised brands seeks an experienced commercial lawyer for a new in-house position in Yorkshire.
Working as part of a national in-house legal team, this is a great opportunity to work closely with a wide range of divisions in the group and take a leading role on a diverse range of commercial work. Current business practices allow lower value agreements to be handled closer to ground level, which has the knock-on effect of filtering through more complex and high-risk matters such as large outsourcing contracts, group IT systems, and high value commercial agreements, often with an international element, to the legal team.
This in-house legal team has and works closely with a panel of external advisors. However, this is a very hands-on role rather than just external counsel management and requires a lawyer with strong contract negotiating and technical drafting skills.
The team are ideally looking for someone who has at least 4 years PQE* and is comfortable advising on complex, high value transactions. Some in-house experience is preferable, which can be from a secondment or any experience working with organisations in a regulated sector would be a distinct advantage. Whilst lawyers with mainstream commercial experience are naturally of interest, the team are also happy to consider people with experience in other areas of law where strong technical, drafting and project management experience is required such as projects, pensions, banking, construction, projects and real estate.
The position comes with a highly competitive starting salary and one of the best benefits packages in the region. The business also operates an agile working policy allowing for flexible working around the business needs and the head of the department proactively encourages staff maintain a good work life balance. This includes predictable hours and the opportunity to work from home up to two days per week.
