The latest Robert Walters UK Jobs Index has revealed that job vacancies for procurement and supply chain professionals rose by 43% in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same time last year.
Mid-level management roles accounted for over a third of vacancies (36%) while junior buyer roles made up 25%.
“Improving the efficiency of supply chain and procurement functions has been an ongoing priority for employers in the UK, particularly in the face of economic and political uncertainty in 2016,” commented Neil Morgan, Associate Director at Robert Walters.
“However, as we have moved into 2017, businesses have also looked to expand and grow, compounding demand for highly skilled supply chain and procurement professionals who can ensure that this expansion is fully supported and sustainable over the long term.”
Mid level managers sought
As Britain prepares to negotiate new trade agreements outside the European Union, employers are aware that new challenges, as well as new opportunities, will appear.
As a result, demand for mid-level procurement and supply chain specialists who can play a role in developing new strategies for taking advantage of these opportunities has risen.
“As Britain develops new trade relationships, employers are aware that they will need to revise their procurement and supply chain strategies,” added Neil Morgan
“This will require supply chain and procurement professionals with the skills and experience to quickly identify new opportunities and act to capitalise on them in order for firms to stay competitive.”
“This in turn is driving demand for mid-level professionals in these fields. With employers prepared to compete to secure the best talent.”
