Investment management finance skills in demand

Demand for finance professionals within investment management increased in the second quarter of the year, despite uncertainty caused by the EU referendum.

Although some recruitment plans were put on hold early in the year, these have now re-started meaning employers are competing to secure the best talent.

“Despite uncertain economic headwinds and the impact of the EU referendum, increased regulatory requirements are driving the need for employers to hire finance professionals, and this trend is expected to continue for the remainder of the year,” said Martin Fox, Manager at Robert Walters.

Key hiring areas

Increased regulatory pressure has pushed businesses to improve their financial control/statutory reporting processes resulting in a demand for finance professionals with experience in this area.

Large fund management firms dominated hiring for the first half of 2016 making up the bulk of roles during the period with financial accounting roles making up the majority of the total roles filled.

Newly-qualified ACAs with experience in auditing complex financial statements of investment management clients are also in high demand.

Candidates with 2-5 years’ PQE are highly sought after to fill the roles of those that have left for career breaks or careers in other industries.

“We anticipate a positive recruitment market within investment management as hiring managers continue to look for the best and brightest candidates to fill replacement roles to deal with the increased regulatory burden being placed on them”.
