Business Initiatives and Analytics Analyst
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Initiatives and Analytics Analyst to join a highly respected Investment Bank based in London. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys providing expert analytical support, and is passionate about driving process improvements within finance.
You will be part of a dedicated team that plays a pivotal role in supporting global markets and treasury businesses, ensuring the integrity and timeliness of financial reporting, and contributing to new business initiatives.
What you'll do:
As a Business Initiatives and Analytics Analyst, your day-to-day responsibilities will centre around providing robust analytical support for trading portfolios, ensuring the accuracy of financial estimates, and maintaining effective governance over financial reporting processes. You will play an integral part in explaining complex P&L movements to senior management, consolidating critical business commentary, and communicating key findings across multiple stakeholder groups. Your ability to contribute thoughtfully to month-end processes, initiate recommendations for process enhancements, and act as a trusted point of contact for both local businesses and international teams will be essential. By representing your team on cross-functional projects and acting as an advisory resource for other finance groups, you will help foster an environment focused on continuous improvement while building strong professional relationships throughout the organisation.
- Review, monitor, and analyse trading portfolios on a daily basis to ensure accuracy and provide insightful commentary for senior management.
- Deliver precise reporting of Profit and Loss (P&L) and Daily Financial Estimates (DFE) across equity derivatives, interest rate derivatives, and XVA management businesses.
- Provide clear explanations around daily P&L numbers, including detailed analysis of fluctuations and significant drivers for comprehensive management reporting.
- Develop an understanding of the relationship between reported figures in daily P&L statements and their impact on accounting records and balance sheets.
- Consolidate and review business entity DFE commentary to maintain high standards of governance and control across all trading activities.
- Communicate Independent Price Verification (IPV) results effectively to key stakeholders within the business lines, ensuring transparency and clarity.
- Contribute to month-end and quarter-end reporting processes by ensuring completeness and accuracy of all submissions.
- Initiate analytical reviews to recommend improvements that enhance overall business efficiency and support ongoing process optimisation.
- Act as a liaison between infrastructure teams on reporting processes related to production issue resolution, fostering strong interdepartmental relationships.
- Represent the analytics team on various project groups, collaborating with peers and business partners to drive continuous improvement.
What you bring:
To excel as a Business Initiatives and Analytics Analyst, your background should reflect proven experience in financial analysis within fast-moving environments where attention to detail is paramount. Your academic credentials will underpin your technical expertise in handling complex data using tools such as Excel or Alteryx. You will bring well-honed organisational skills that allow you to manage competing demands without compromising quality or timelines. Your interpersonal strengths will shine through as you collaborate with diverse teams—whether liaising with front office staff on urgent queries or partnering with technology specialists during system upgrades. A natural communicator who can translate intricate financial information into actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels will find this role especially rewarding. Above all, your commitment to upholding governance standards while seeking opportunities for process enhancement will set you apart as an invaluable member of the analytics function.
- Educated to degree level with at least a 2:1 or equivalent qualification, demonstrating strong academic achievement relevant to finance or related fields.
- Experience within the financial services sector is highly desirable, particularly exposure to equity derivatives, interest rate derivatives, collateral management, XVA management or fixed income products.
- Proficiency with Alteryx is extremely advantageous; advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential for managing complex data sets efficiently.
- Well-developed organisational abilities enable you to prioritise multiple tasks effectively within an ever-changing environment while meeting tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills allow you to build positive relationships with colleagues across front office, risk management, technology, operations, and finance functions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills empower you to explain complex concepts succinctly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative approach ensures you thrive as part of a team while being adaptable when responding to evolving priorities or project requirements.
- A detail-oriented mindset supports your commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy in all aspects of financial analysis and reporting.
- A responsible attitude towards governance means you are comfortable taking ownership of assigned tasks while upholding rigorous control standards.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure enables you to deliver quality outcomes even when faced with conflicting priorities or heavy workloads.
