This role offers the chance to work closely with both the Chief Financial Officer and the Principals, spanning first and second generations, in a highly trusted environment. The position is ideal for someone who appreciates the importance of both strategic oversight and hands-on accounting, and seeks exposure to a diverse range of asset classes and international structures. With a competitive salary package of £90-95,000, this role provides not only financial reward but also the unique prospect of investing alongside the family office, fostering long-term professional growth and personal development.

  • Work directly with senior leadership including the CFO and Principals, gaining invaluable insight into high-level decision making and strategy within a family office environment.
  • Enjoy a varied remit that combines fundamental accounting duties with more complex financial management across multiple asset classes and global locations.

What you'll do:

As Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in managing both routine and complex financial operations within the family office. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include preparing detailed weekly reports using Excel, overseeing comprehensive bookkeeping activities, and managing payment processes that span multiple asset classes and international locations. You will be entrusted with facilitating fund movements between onshore and offshore structures, always ensuring that each transaction is fully documented with supporting resolutions and audit trails. In addition to these core duties, you will collaborate with external fund administration firms at junior levels when necessary, assist in preparing materials for audits or regulatory reviews, and provide timely financial information to senior partners. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also a willingness to take on tasks outside your typical remit, demonstrating humility as well as strategic acumen. Your ability to maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, and adapt quickly to changing priorities will be key to thriving in this dynamic environment.

  • Prepare weekly reports using Excel, ensuring accuracy and clarity for internal stakeholders while maintaining comprehensive monthly reporting processes.
  • Manage extensive bookkeeping activities, handling day-to-day transactions with diligence and attention to detail across various accounts.
  • Oversee payment activity including administrative tasks such as board minutes, resolutions, and documentation for different assets located in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Facilitate movement of funds between onshore and offshore structures, ensuring all transfers are supported by appropriate resolutions and a full audit trail.
  • Maintain robust accounting records for diverse asset classes, providing transparency and accountability at every stage of the process.
  • Collaborate with fund administration firms at junior levels when required, supporting their efforts while ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Demonstrate adaptability by taking on tasks outside your usual remit as needed to support the smooth running of the office.
  • Assist in preparing materials for audits and regulatory reviews, ensuring all documentation meets required standards.
  • Support senior partners and Principals by providing clear financial information and responding promptly to queries or requests for analysis.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Financial Controller position will bring a wealth of experience from roles within family offices, investment management or private equity settings. Your background should demonstrate not only technical expertise but also an ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders through dependable communication skills. You will have proven yourself adaptable, willing to step outside your comfort zone when required and possess the humility necessary to handle both basic accounting tasks and more strategic projects. A deep understanding of international financial structures is essential, as is advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting purposes. Your experience managing payments across diverse asset classes will ensure you can maintain rigorous audit trails while collaborating effectively with external partners. Above all else, your commitment to supporting others within an inclusive team environment will set you apart as someone who can thrive in this unique setting.

  • Degree educated qualified accountant with recognised professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Proven experience working within a family office, investment management firm or private equity environment where discretion and reliability are paramount.
  • Demonstrable credibility when interacting with senior partners or Principals; your interpersonal skills enable you to build trust quickly.
  • Adaptability to take on tasks beyond your formal job description; you are willing to contribute wherever needed for the success of the team.
  • Humility to perform fundamental accounting duties alongside more strategic responsibilities without hesitation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of both onshore and offshore financial structures; you can navigate complex regulatory environments confidently.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting purposes; you are comfortable creating detailed spreadsheets that inform decision-making.
  • Experience managing payments across multiple asset classes and jurisdictions; you understand the importance of maintaining thorough audit trails.
