Payroll Team Leader – Milton Keynes (Hybrid Working)

We are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading global organisation recognised for its innovation and continued growth. They are seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to oversee a busy and high-performing payroll operation supporting a large, multi-site workforce across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated payroll professional to step into a key leadership role within a respected and forward-thinking business. Based at the Milton Keynes office with the flexibility of hybrid working, you’ll manage a dedicated team responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees.
  • Ensure full compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop payroll staff, fostering professional growth and high performance.
  • Act as the main point of contact for escalated payroll queries and internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with HMRC, auditors, and other external bodies, representing the organisation in audits and regulatory discussions.
  • Manage payroll software, upgrades, and system integrity.
  • Implement controls and reconciliations to minimise errors and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Provide KPIs and payroll insights to senior leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Contribute to payroll transformation projects and strategic initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and automation.

About You:

  • Experienced payroll professional with a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.

  • Proven background managing high-volume or multi-site payrolls.

  • Skilled in leading and developing teams, balancing technical expertise with people management.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.

  • Confident building collaborative relationships with HR, Finance, and senior leaders.

  • Experience in system upgrades, audits, and process improvements.

  • CIPP qualification (or equivalent experience) preferred.
