Product Controller
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Product Controller specialising in Equities to join a highly respected financial institution based in London. You will be responsible for analysing complex financial data, identifying discrepancies in valuations, implementing best practice accounting policies, and contributing to process improvements that drive efficiency
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of day-to-day profit and loss, balance sheet, and valuation control activities.
- Identify valuation discrepancies with precision, investigating issues thoroughly and collaborating closely with Front Line Units, Risk, Operations, and other finance teams to resolve them efficiently.
- Analyse drivers behind profit and loss as well as balance sheet movements, providing insightful commentary for management that supports informed decision-making.
- Ensure strict adherence to accounting policies related to repos, including sale and repurchase accounting practices, while maintaining compliance with FIN41 and IFRS netting guidance for financial instruments.
- Work collaboratively with the global valuations group to review and enhance valuation control methodologies, ensuring all procedure documents remain accurate and up-to-date.
- Contribute meaningfully to governance processes by supporting operational error reporting and internal control procedures such as SOX compliance.
- Support audit engagements by addressing queries on valuation matters, accounting treatments, and finance controls with clarity and professionalism.
- Provide finance leadership on new product approvals, system implementations, and changes in accounting policy affecting repo activity.
What you bring:
- Preferably hold a recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA or possess CFA accreditation with strong working knowledge of core accounting concepts relevant to financial services.
- Demonstrate proven expertise in financial accounting principles alongside comprehensive experience in financial reporting within an equities or securities environment.
- Exhibit advanced analytical reasoning skills when interpreting complex profit and loss statements as well as balance sheet movements.
- Show deep understanding of valuation control methodologies applicable to securities repo activity within global markets.
- Display familiarity with sale and repurchase accounting practices along with compliance requirements under FIN41 and IFRS netting guidance for financial instruments.
