What you'll do:

As Director of Regulatory Relations, you will be entrusted with managing critical relationships between the organisation and UK regulators. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve coordinating responses to regulatory requests with meticulous attention to detail while communicating effectively with both external authorities and internal stakeholders. You will ensure that all correspondence meets stringent quality standards and deadlines. In this role, you will also track internal action plans related to regulatory matters, participate in project work addressing new requirements or actions from regulators, provide expert advice across teams including senior management functions, prepare insightful updates for governance committees, offer guidance on emerging regulatory developments impacting business strategy, lead by example within the Compliance management team, nurture staff through effective line management practices including development planning and training support, handle whistleblowing concerns responsibly, and uphold clear reporting lines throughout your area of responsibility. Your ability to foster collaboration across departments will be essential for success.

  • Manage all aspects of relations with the PRA and FCA by coordinating, overseeing, and contributing to the preparation of correspondence with UK regulators while ensuring timely communication with internal stakeholders regarding incoming regulatory requests.
  • Track and coordinate internal action plans to guarantee high-quality delivery on specific regulatory requests, maintaining rigorous standards for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Participate in project work related to delivering regulatory actions and requirements as needed, demonstrating flexibility in adapting to evolving priorities.
  • Provide assistance to the Head of UK Compliance as required, offering dependable support on complex compliance matters.
  • Advise other teams and senior managers on regulatory requests, ensuring clarity and consistency in guidance provided across the organisation.
  • Lead the preparation of updates for key internal governance committees such as Audit and Compliance Committee, focusing on progress against regulatory actions.
  • Offer advice to the Regulatory Developments function regarding potential impacts of new regulatory developments on business activities.
  • Serve as a key member of the London Compliance management team, contributing positively to leadership discussions and strategic planning.
  • Line manage staff as required by encouraging development plans, supporting attendance at training sessions, managing performance issues sensitively, and fostering a nurturing environment.
  • Take whistleblowing concerns seriously by escalating appropriately in line with company policy.

What you bring:

Your extensive background in investment banking compliance or direct regulatory relations equips you with deep knowledge of relevant frameworks governing wholesale banks. You bring not only technical expertise but also outstanding interpersonal skills that allow you to connect meaningfully with colleagues at all levels. Your approach is grounded in empathy; you value open communication channels that encourage sharing ideas freely while respecting diverse perspectives. Your sensitivity when handling confidential matters such as whistleblowing ensures that concerns are addressed promptly yet discreetly. Above all else, your passion for upholding integrity within compliance sets you apart as an inspiring leader who champions best practice every day.

  • Possess over ten years’ experience within investment banking or banking compliance environments or direct experience in regulatory relations or regulation itself.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the UK regulatory regime for wholesale banks along with risk and control requirements applicable to banking entities.
  • Showcase exceptional organisational abilities paired with strong time management skills that enable you to deliver consistently high-quality outcomes under pressure.
