Management Accountant

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, which is being brought in-house for the first time. The role will involve supporting financial planning, reporting, bookkeeping, and operational decision-making across multiple revenue streams, including venue operations, coaching programs, retail, events, and memberships.

Key Responsibilities

Management Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for each location, including P&L statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash flow analysis.
  • Provide detailed commentary on revenue streams such as bookings, memberships, coaching sessions, tournaments, and retail/café operations.
  • Analyse financial performance metrics such as venue utilisation rates, occupancy levels, and yield per facility.
  • Prepare month-end journals (e.g., accruals, prepayments, depreciation) and provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations.

Daily Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing

  • Maintain accurate financial records using Xero accounting software with divisional tracking for projects and locations.
  • Process purchase invoices using automated tools (e.g., Hubdoc), raise sales invoices, reconcile receipts/payments, and upload booking system data into Xero.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards daily.
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable ledgers and staff expenses.
  • Maintain a fixed asset register within Xero.

Cash Flow & Financial Control

  • Monitor daily/weekly cash positions and prepare payment runs.
  • Allocate receipts accurately and flag any variances or issues promptly.
  • Ensure robust financial controls are implemented and maintained.

VAT, Payroll & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly VAT returns.
  • Process payroll on a monthly basis while ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and auto-enrolment responsibilities.
  • Meet all statutory deadlines related to Companies House filings.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

  • Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, scenario plans, and cashflow models.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to assist with financial forecasting.
  • Monitor performance against budgets while identifying risks or opportunities for growth.
  • Analyse pricing strategies for revenue streams such as memberships or court bookings.

Operational Support for Sports Facilities Work closely with operations teams to:

  • Evaluate court utilisation rates and scheduling efficiency.
  • Assess coaching productivity metrics.
  • Optimise staffing models for venues.
  • Support capital expenditure planning for new facilities or upgrades.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies for potential new locations.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to UK GAAP standards and internal control frameworks.
  • Assist with regulatory requirements such as GDPR compliance and audit processes.
  • Maintain accurate systems for multi-site financial operations.

Year-End & Audit Support

  • Collaborate with external accountants during year-end processes.
  • Prepare audit-ready schedules/documentation as required.
  • Ensure effective implementation of financial controls.

Experience & Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Part-Qualified towards a professional accounting qualification such as ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Multi-site experience
  • Strong experience in preparing management accounts and analysing financial data.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to work effectively with large datasets.
  • Excellent attention to detail combined with an analytical mindset.
