Financial Controller
A small but well-established financial services organisation is looking for a highly experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of its Financial Control function.
You’ll lead a team of six, ensuring strong financial governance, robust processes, and full compliance with regulatory requirements. This role offers the chance to own and improve financial operations across banking, treasury, payments, and reporting — all within a dynamic, collaborative environment where attention to detail and continuous improvement are key.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management and development of a well-established Financial Control team (6 direct reports).
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger, with accurate reconciliations to core systems.
- Oversee all month-end, year-end, and daily processing, ensuring deadlines are met across the wider business.
- Manage oversight of banking, payments and treasury back-office processes — ensuring appropriate controls, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead the preparation and review of key regulatory returns to the PRA and BOE.
- Maintain effective reporting and control over bilateral funding arrangements.
- Partner with Treasury and external stakeholders to uphold robust operational procedures.
- Champion a culture of risk awareness — ensuring timely reporting of operational risk events and data integrity issues.
- Ensure compliance with evolving financial, tax, and regulatory standards.
- Act as a key player in relevant projects impacting Financial Control and wider finance operations.
- Provide financial support to cost centre managers, and maintain control over bank and cost mandates.
Experience and qualifications required:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA , ACCA, CA , CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong background in financial operations, ideally within financial services (banking , building societies, insurance, pensions etc…)
- In-depth knowledge of UK regulatory reporting, tax, and payments frameworks.
- Experience overseeing treasury back-office and funding controls.
- Confident people manager with a track record of leading, developing, and motivating teams.
- Process-driven mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Strong stakeholder management skills — comfortable dealing with third-party providers, auditors, and regulators.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to identify risk and enhance control frameworks.
