Assistant Accountant
This is a hands-on Assistant Accountant role suited to someone comfortable with the day-to-day running of finance operations while supporting month-end reporting. You’ll be involved in everything from transactional processing to management accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Transactional Finance
- Process purchase invoices, manage supplier payments, and maintain accurate AP ledgers
- Raise sales invoices, allocate customer receipts, and reconcile AR balances
- Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns
- Handle staff expenses and credit card reconciliations
- Oversee weekly and monthly payroll preparation (liaising with external providers if applicable)
Month-End & Reporting
- Support with month-end journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
- Assist in preparing management accounts and variance analysis
- Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support audit preparation and respond to auditor queries
Continuous Improvement
- Help streamline finance processes and improve efficiency
- Maintain compliance with company policies and financial controls
- Support the Finance Manager with ad hoc analysis and reporting
About You
- PQ and studying towards ACCA / CIMA
- Experience in a similar Assistant Accountant or all-round Finance role
- Confident with double-entry bookkeeping and month-end processes
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, NetSuite, or similar)
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with good communication skills
