Accountant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to join a well-established property investment and development organisation based in North London. This permanent position offers a competitive salary of £40,000 - £45,000, reflecting your experience and expertise. You will be part of a knowledgeable team managing a substantial commercial and residential portfolio, supporting the smooth running of a busy accounts department and treasury function. Responsibilities:
- Manage the reporting function for major works and developments across the property portfolio by preparing detailed financial reports that support business decisions.
- Prepare year-end accounts files up to trial balance level, ensuring accuracy in profit and loss accounts as well as balance sheets for internal review.
- Handle book-keeping duties alongside quarterly preparation of VAT returns to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the treasury function when required by maintaining cash balances and executing transfers and payments efficiently.
- Support the preparation of management accounts, cash flows, and reports to banks by collaborating closely with other finance team members.
- Deliver ad-hoc management reporting and data analysis tasks as needed to provide valuable insights into business performance.
- Adapt quickly to new accounting packages while maintaining high standards of computer literacy across Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Ensure all financial records are maintained with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy throughout daily operations.
- Meet deadlines consistently through excellent organisational skills while balancing multiple priorities within the accounts department.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Minimum five years’ experience working in practice or similar accounting environments where you have developed robust technical skills.
- Proven track record of preparing accounts files accurately up to trial balance level for both commercial and residential portfolios.
- Working knowledge of VAT regulations including partial exemption rules relevant to property investment businesses.
- Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles applied consistently across all financial transactions.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) enabling efficient handling of financial data.
- Excellent time management skills demonstrated by meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy.
- High level of numeracy allowing you to interpret complex financial information effectively for reporting purposes.
- Organised approach that enables you to manage multiple tasks simultaneously within a busy department setting.
- Flexible attitude towards learning new processes or adapting quickly to changes in accounting software packages.
