Interim Management Accountant

Save job

Our client is looking for an interim management accountant to join them on a 6-month FTC based in Herefordshire, paying circa £50,000.

What you'll do:

As an Interim Management Accountant based in Herefordshire, you will play a vital role in supporting the organisation’s financial operations over a six-month period. Your day-to-day responsibilities will centre around preparing detailed management accounts, collaborating with stakeholders across different departments, and providing valuable financial insights that inform key decisions. You will be instrumental in monitoring project costs—particularly those related to construction—and ensuring that budgets are adhered to. By contributing to process improvements and maintaining rigorous compliance standards, you will help drive efficiency within the finance function. Your ability to communicate complex financial information clearly will ensure that colleagues feel supported and empowered throughout your assignment.

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, ensuring all financial data is presented clearly and in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Collaborate closely with various stakeholders across the business to provide insightful financial analysis and support decision-making processes.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities, helping teams plan effectively for upcoming projects and operational needs.
  • Monitor project costs and expenditure, particularly within the construction sector, ensuring all financial records are maintained accurately.
  • Support the finance team with reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting requirements as needed throughout the contract period.
  • Contribute to process improvements within the finance function by identifying areas for greater efficiency or enhanced accuracy.
  • Provide timely responses to queries from internal departments regarding financial matters, demonstrating your commitment to excellent service.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies at all times during your tenure.
  • Participate in regular meetings with senior management to present findings, share insights, and offer recommendations based on financial data.

What you bring:

To excel as an Interim Management Accountant in this organisation, you will bring proven experience from previous roles where you have demonstrated reliability and professionalism. Your background may include working within commercial environments—ideally with exposure to construction projects—where you have developed strong analytical capabilities alongside excellent communication skills. Your collaborative nature will enable you to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels while supporting their understanding of financial matters. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities without compromising on quality or accuracy. A commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality is essential for this position. Familiarity with accounting systems such as Sage would be beneficial but not mandatory; what matters most is your willingness to learn new tools quickly if required.

  • Demonstrated experience as a management accountant or similar finance role within a commercial environment.
  • Proven track record of effective stakeholder management, showing empathy and understanding when communicating complex financial information.
  • Ideally previous exposure to the construction industry or related sectors, enabling you to understand project-based accounting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with attention to detail when preparing reports or reviewing data.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities that foster collaboration within teams and across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and variance analysis processes within medium-to-large organisations.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software packages such as Sage or similar platforms is desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to commute regularly to the office in Herefordshire as required by the role.
