Accounts and Advisory Assistant Manager
A leading accountancy firm is seeking an Accounts and Advisory Assistant Manager to join their London office, offering you the chance to become part of a top ten UK practice with a reputation for nurturing talent and supporting professional growth. This role provides a unique opportunity to manage your own client portfolio, foster meaningful relationships, and contribute to the development of junior team members in a supportive environment.
You will benefit from ongoing mentorship by senior management, ensuring your journey continues with both technical and soft skills development. The organisation is committed to providing flexible working opportunities, generous training programmes, and a culture that values collaboration, inclusivity, and personal progression.
What you'll do:
As an Accounts and Business Advisory Assistant Manager, you will be entrusted with managing your own portfolio of clients, delivering expert advice on statutory accounts preparation, and supporting them with tailored recommendations. Your day-to-day activities will involve producing complex financial statements, mentoring junior colleagues, and collaborating within a knowledgeable team that values open communication. Success in this role comes from your ability to build lasting client relationships, provide dependable support to less experienced staff members, and maintain meticulous records of your work. You will play an integral part in driving revenue targets while contributing positively to the team's inclusive culture.
- Manage a diverse client portfolio independently, ensuring all accounting needs are met with minimal supervision from senior staff.
- Support the delivery of revenue and profitability targets by maintaining high standards of service and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Build enduring relationships with clients by providing thoughtful advice on best practices and recommendations for partner review.
- Produce complex annual statutory accounts for clients while offering insightful guidance on accounting matters.
- Mentor junior team members by answering day-to-day queries, guiding their professional journey, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Work both autonomously and as part of a cohesive team to achieve shared goals and maintain high levels of communication with colleagues and clients.
- Support junior staff through regular feedback, encouragement, and practical assistance in their daily tasks.
- Ensure accurate narration of timesheets by capturing detailed analysis of work undertaken for each client engagement.
- Monitor utilisation percentage budgets closely and strive to meet or exceed expected targets through effective time management.
- Initiate the fee process by recording all hours worked diligently and ensuring transparency in billing procedures.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Accounts and Business Advisory Assistant Manager position brings recognised qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CA (or equivalent) alongside substantial experience managing client portfolios within accountancy or business advisory settings. Your proven track record includes building positive relationships through considerate communication, supporting junior colleagues with warmth and empathy, and maintaining high standards of accuracy in all aspects of your work. You thrive in environments where collaboration is valued over competition, demonstrating reliability in meeting targets while remaining sensitive to the needs of others. Your enthusiasm for continuous learning ensures you make the most of available training opportunities as you progress under the guidance of supportive leaders.
- Proven experience in a similar role within accountancy or business advisory services, showcasing your ability to manage client portfolios effectively.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that enable you to foster trust-based relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
- A commitment to mentoring junior staff members by providing empathetic guidance and constructive feedback throughout their development journey.
- Strong organisational abilities that allow you to balance multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy in timesheet narration and fee processes.
- Excellent communication skills for maintaining clear dialogue with clients, line managers, and team members at all levels.
- A collaborative approach that supports communal success through knowledge sharing and teamwork.
- Attention to detail when producing statutory accounts or analysing work undertaken for each engagement.
- Responsiveness in adapting to changing priorities while ensuring deadlines are consistently met without compromising quality.
- Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development supported by mentorship from senior management.
