Future looks promising for IT professionals
United Kingdom
- Business and domain knowledge rated above technical or systems experience in quarter two
- Permanent salaries nudged upwards over the period
Quarter two saw a continued need for both IT contractors and permanent staff and salaries and rates rose, according to the latest Market Update from Robert Walters.
Jason Addicott, Associate Director of Robert Walters’ IT recruitment division, comments:
“There is a continued need for staff as a number of banks are part of the way through large systems upgrades, implementation and integration projects. Specifically, we saw demand for project and programme managers, business analysts, software developers and engineers with domain business knowledge and experience in quarter two. The term ‘business technologist’ is often overused, but it accurately describes where the demand in the market lay in quarter two.
“We noticed a number of hiring firms rated business and/or domain knowledge above specific technical or systems experience. In many cases, employers were prepared to consider similar or even less experience with a view to cross training or upskilling with required tools."
